The fur of the Labrador

The hair is a hallmark of the breed and should be short and dense without wave or feathering, touch should give the impression of being quite hard. It has a layer of underfur, which is waterproof.

The description of the robe was written at the beginning of 1900 to distinguish the breed of the Flat Coat and Curly Coat Retrievers. A good coat, thick and dense with a good Sub-coat often has a sub-wave up. This is not what the standard was trying to stop, quite the opposite. A coat with a full undercoat often move the hair done upwards in the same way that a person with thick hair that always curls. The best furs often have a small wave.

It is essential that the dog is presented with his natural hair without any scissors work, with the exception of the tip of the tail and the hair between the pads of the feet. Its hard outer coat is a distinctive feature of the breed and should not be modified with scissors or detergents. In England dogs that have been recently bathed with shampoo or detergent and then have the softest hair are penalized on the track.
